Writing prices correctly
Where the symbol goes depends on the language as well as the currency. English puts the symbol first with no space, as in £20 or €15. French, German and many other languages put it after the amount with a space: 15 €. When in doubt, use the three-letter currency code, such as EUR or GBP, which is never ambiguous.
Shared symbols
Several currencies share one symbol. The dollar sign $ is used for the US, Canadian and Australian dollars and for many pesos, and ¥ stands for both the Japanese yen and the Chinese yuan. Add the country, as in US$ or C$, when the difference matters.
Newer signs
Some currency signs are recent creations: the Indian rupee sign ₹ dates from 2010, the Turkish lira sign ₺ from 2012 and the ruble sign ₽ from 2013. Current fonts include them, but devices that have not been updated in many years may show an empty box.
