What these symbols mean
Several of these are religious symbols with long histories. The Latin cross ✝, the Orthodox cross ☦ and the Syriac crosses ♰ and ♱ are Christian symbols, the ankh ☥ comes from ancient Egypt, and the pentagram ⛤ is used in Wicca. Each has its own page here with its background.
Typography with a dark edge
The dagger † started as a footnote mark in printed books, and placed before a name it traditionally means the person has died. The turned dagger ⸸ is its upside-down form. Both are plain text, so they match the colour and weight of your font.
Emoji or text
The skull 💀, bat 🦇 and spider 🕷 are emoji and will appear in colour. If you want everything to stay in one colour, choose the text symbols instead: ☠, ☾, †, ✝ and ⛧.
Gothic symbol combos: ready-made combinations of these symbols.
