What Roblox accepts

Roblox usernames can only use letters, numbers and one underscore, and they must be 3 to 20 characters long, so symbols will not work there. Display names allow more freedom, but they still refuse most symbols, and the rules change from time to time. Check the message Roblox shows when you save.

Where symbols do appear is in chat, group names and descriptions, and game titles and descriptions.

Why some symbols turn into boxes or hashtags

Roblox draws text with its own fonts, which cover far fewer characters than your phone does, so an uncommon symbol can appear as an empty box. Chat also passes through Roblox's text filter, which replaces anything it flags with # marks, and unusual characters can trip it.

Picking symbols that work

Arrows, stars, hearts, check marks and card suits come from long-established Unicode blocks, which gives them the best chance of displaying in Roblox. The grid above sticks to those. Try a symbol in chat with a friend before you put it in a game title.
