Choosing an arrow
For everyday writing, the plain arrows → ← ↑ ↓ are the safest choice: they are in almost every font and read clearly at any size. Heavier dingbat arrows such as ➜ and ➤ stand out as calls to action, and the curved ↳ and ⤷ suit replies and sub-points.
Arrows in maths and logic
The double arrow ⇒ means implies, and ⇔ means if and only if. The two-way ↔ shows a relationship that runs both ways, and in chemistry → separates the starting substances from the products of a reaction.
Typing arrows
Many apps turn -> into → automatically, but not all of them, and the result can differ between apps. Copying from this page gives you the exact character every time. Each arrow's own page lists its code point and HTML code.
