Marked items were added to Unicode in 2020 or later and can show as empty boxes on devices that have not been updated since.
Faces and frames
The faces here are built from phonetic letters: ᵔ for happy eyes, ᵕ or ᴗ for a mouth and ˶ for cheeks, framed by the soft Yi brackets ꒰ and ꒱. The bear-ear frame ꒰ა ໒꒱ borrows a Georgian letter and a Lao digit for the ears.
Where they fit
Short combos such as ୨୧ or ʚ♡ɞ fit in names and nicknames. The faces work best in messages, captions and bios, where there is room for spaces between the pieces.
If something shows as a box
These combos mix characters from many writing systems. If one piece appears as an empty box on your device, try a shorter combo or swap that piece for a heart or a star, which every phone can display.
