QR code for plain text
Type a message, a reference number or short instructions to put them straight into a QR code. When someone scans it, the text appears on their screen without needing an internet connection.
Fill in the form to make your code.
On a phone you can also press and hold the image to save it.
What the code contains
Good uses for text codes
Text codes suit information that should work offline: a serial number on equipment, a table number, a short set of instructions on a machine, a clue in a treasure hunt or a note on a label. Up to a few hundred characters keeps the code easy to scan.
What is refused
Text that starts like a link to another app, such as javascript: or intent:, is refused, because a phone may try to run it. Ordinary web addresses are allowed, but if the code is meant to open a page, use the link generator, which checks that the address is valid.
Languages, symbols and emoji
Any language works, including accented letters, Chinese and Japanese characters, symbols and emoji, because the text is stored as UTF-8. Current camera apps read it correctly. Some older scanner apps show accented or non-Latin characters wrongly, so test with the kind of phones your audience uses.
Nothing leaves your device
The code is drawn in your browser. What you type is never sent to SymbolMint or stored, analytics record only which kind of code was downloaded, and we cannot see the codes you make or how often they are scanned.
