What the code contains
Your password stays on your device
The code is built in your browser. Your network name and password are never sent to SymbolMint, never stored and never included in analytics. Anyone who scans the printed code can read the password, though, so treat the code like the password itself.
How it works
The code uses the standard Wi-Fi format, WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;, which the camera apps on iPhone and Android understand. Special characters in the network name or the password, such as semicolons, commas, colons, quotes and backslashes, are escaped automatically so the phone joins the right network.
Choosing the settings
Choose WPA for WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 networks, which covers almost every home and office router. Choose No password for an open network. If your network does not broadcast its name, tick Hidden network so phones know to look for it.
Testing it
Before you frame the code, forget the network on your phone, scan the code and check that it joins. A guest network with its own password is a good choice for a code that will be on display.
