Delta

U+0394 · Greek and Coptic

Meaning and uses

Δ is the capital of delta, the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet. Science uses it for change: ΔT is a change in temperature, Δx a change in position and ΔH, in chemistry, a change in enthalpy, while lower-case δ often marks a very small change. The increment sign ∆ in the maths block is almost identical and is what Option+J types on a Mac; to get this Greek letter in Word, type 0394 and press Alt+X. Either reads as delta, so match whichever your document already uses.
