What a handle can contain

YouTube's handle rules leave no room for symbols. A handle is 3 to 30 characters in most scripts, made of letters or numbers from one of the 75 languages YouTube supports, plus underscores, hyphens, full stops and the Latin middle dot ·, none of which may start or end it. Handles are not case-sensitive.

Symbols such as ★ or ♡ belong in the channel name instead. YouTube's help pages give no character list for channel names, only that they must follow the Community Guidelines.

Titles and descriptions

YouTube allows up to 100 characters in a video title and 5,000 in a description, and neither may contain the angle brackets < and >. One symbol can mark a series or a key point; keep the words people search for near the start of the title.

Styled letters on YouTube

The bold and script styles below are made of Unicode letters, so YouTube accepts them in a channel name, a title or a description. Search may not treat them as the plain words they resemble, so use them for one word of emphasis and write the rest normally.
