Marked items were added to Unicode in 2020 or later and can show as empty boxes on devices that have not been updated since.
Where the bows come from
The bow ΰ¨ΰ§ is two digits from the Odia script of eastern India, set side by side so that their curls face each other. π is a sign from Linear A, the undeciphered script of ancient Crete, borrowed for its bow-like outline, and α₯«α‘ joins a Tai Le letter and a Balinese musical symbol into a small heart with a bow.
Pink hearts on older phones
The pink heart π©· arrived with Emoji 15.0 in 2022, so a phone without a recent update may show an empty box in its place. The white heart π€ and the text heart β‘ are older and safer in a name.
Names, bios and captions
Text-only combos such as ΰ¨ΰ§, π and α₯«α‘ are short enough for a display name and keep the colour of the text around them. Save the emoji combos for a bio line, a caption or a story, where a little colour helps.
